* From Chess Studio's Chicago June, 1964. This was the first release to feature these tracks in excellent quality from a tape source
(no crackles on Stewed and Keefed). The TSP label soon followed.

[DH] 70 min; A fine collection of material from various eras including material never available before, even to tape traders. Mostly excellent sound.

This is a collection of unreleased songs mostly recorded during the "Some Girls" sessions at Pathe Marconi studios in Paris October 1977
to March 1978. Tracks 1 & 2 were recorded during rehearsals for the Rolling Stones 1978 US-tour at RCA studios Hollywood in June.
The Keith Richards songs "We Had It All" and "Let's Go Steady" are "Emotional Rescue" outtakes, recorded in Paris June 1979 and
Nassau February 1979.
Apparently, 1977/78 was a good year for the Rolling Stones songwise. Perhaps fuelled, if not directly influenced by the punk-explosion,
the Glimmer Twins came up with loads of songs, most of them unreleased to this day. This is a selection of the best of them.
This is the seventh of eight CDs presenting you with the very best of Rolling Stones-studio-outtakes (unreleased songs, alternate versions, rough
mixes and assorted instrumental jams) in chronological order. Ranging from their very first recording in 1962 through the 1989
"Steel-Wheels" - sessions. This series is meant as a 'definite' and authoritative guide on 27 years of studio-left-overs and unheard material from the
Stones' archives.
Thoughtfully put together from the best possible sources.

[DH] 40 min; TV broadcast with pretty bad sound for a professional recording. Fine performance with the only live version of "I Got the Blues."
Available on several LPs but the CD listed above is best. The performance was touched up in the studio, the original version has recently surfaced on
2 different CDs. The better one is the Japanese "The Lost Marquee Tapes 1971."

[perrotin@pratique.fr]
Outtakes of songs recorded in Paris seem to be surfacing regularly these days thanks to OBR on LP and not on CD.
Unfortunately I have heard neither "Mean Lean Hits" - apparently similar to "Crushed Pearl" + one new song - or Chain Saw Massacre that features
"Chain Saw Rocker" and "Tried to talk her into it" according to Basement News. Limited #150 copies.
Anybody heard them out there ? What do the new songs sound like ? I suspect "Chain Saw Rocker" may be an early take of "Too much blood"...

     Another Version:
      * Available on both CDs   CP Track#9 (4:19)  and LMH Track#8 (4:25)
      * MLH has 6 seconds extra which is (very faintly) Mick counting the start.
DIRTY WORK I [instrumental]
ONE HIT (To The Body) I 5:13
Between the 2 CDs there are 3 different versions of One Hit (To The Body): An Earlier Version: this earlier version exists as Track #12 on CP
     [4:58] and Track #10 on MLH [4:59]
      * song starts with the Chorus: One Hit to the Body, One Hit Straight from the Heart...
      * at 1:23 [MLH] Mick says something to someone in the band.
      * Mick hums/mumbles "lyrics" that may not have been written yet [MLH 1:30-1:44]
      * I find that the copy on MLH sounds a little bit clearer
A Later Version: this verison exists as Track #1 on CP [4:44]
      * song starts with: 1st verse and not chorus verse
      * at 1:48 on CP, there is some strange sound maybe someones trade mark ?

[Harold Colson, hcolson@weber.ucsd.edu]
The new "Melbourne All You Can Eat" 2CD from VGP with audiences from 2/17/73 (first) and 2/18/73 represents a sonic upgrade on at least the
2/17 show, previously out on the now rare "Temperature Rising" 1CD on Red Hot label.
The earlier RH release lent a certain, er, high-pitched flavor to Mick's vocals, but the new VGP redo sounds nicely corrected to my ears.

[Paulo May, paulomj@matrix.com.br]
Metamorphosis is a DECCA compilation of unreleased tracks. Memo From Turner had at least 3 versions and that on disc isn't the same of the film.
All 3 were recorded between may and october at Olympic Studios, London. Apparently, Keith thought Mick and Anita Pallenberg were having an affair
due to their intense relationship during the film making and he retaliated by delaying the recording sessions of MFT. Mick then invited Jim Capaldi
and Steve Winwood to play (this is the Metamorphosis version). There's another version (from the bootleg "On The Rocks") which is totally different, almost a funk. Regarding the other songs, I could write specific dates/locations, but I'll be using much space here. Just for you to know, the
only Chess recording is "Don't Lie To Me" (10/11 June 1964). Even "Heart Of Stone" was recorded in England (Kingsway - July 1964 - and probably
Jimmy Page played on this). As a curiosity, "Don't Lie To Me", which is wrongly credited to "Jagger/Richards" (Chuck Berry) was played again in their
1972 (exactly: 20/21/July-Spectrum, Philadelphia) tour and probably was bootleged.

[Jaaiii] Title mistakenly lists the venue as Munich, GERMANY 9/28/73, but in reality it is an inferior sounding Brussels, BELGIUM 10/17/73.
Copied directly from vinyl lp "SATELLITE DELAYED".

[G. Wheelock] I bought this CD last year, and felt very ripped off by Great Dane, cuz it turns out to be the King Biscuit show essentially from Brussels.
Worse yet, the sound quality was decidedly poor, high end gone, obvious generational loss from dub downs, and poorly edited at that, missing the first
few notes on some songs.

[wsteve@leland.Stanford.EDU] Yeah I got soaked. I was totally unprepared for rain. I got there plenty early and saw the Living Color set too.
My car was broken into and my stereo got ripped off, my friends who had the adjoining seats scalped their tickets leaving me to sit there all alone.
Then Cousin It (also known as Slash) comes on and says "If I knew I had to take a fucking shower out here I would have brought a towel".
This while I'm sitting there all alone in a T-Shirt. I was thinking how miserable this day was. But .... a few hours later (it was a looooong
intermission) the rain stopped and the Stones came on and they were seriously excellent that night. So I was out a car stereo, got sick from the rain
and had to drive back to San Diego in silence but the show was great. Not exactly Altamont but certainly an experience.

[jaaiii] We sat in the 11th row for this, so naturally I'm partial to it. This release is one of those rare stage-monitor soundboards.

[Jason Parker, jparker@frost.com]
Can anyone answer why the soundboard tape used on Vigotone's Frankfurt '76 CD starts off with a Stereo guitar mix, then blends into a Mono mix
during Hey Negrita? Are the tapes of this show the same way, or was Vigotone's mastering of the tape 'faulty'?
I have the old LP More Than Welcome To Frankfurt which is of shorter duration than the CD by a song or two, but I had thought it was all Stereo,
from old memories of it...

[DH] 35 min; The Stones pay tribute to one of their heroes by playing with him and other Chicago blues stars in a small club.
Semi-professionally recorded and filmed (I think the film has the wrong date). Worth seeing.

Incomplete: missing Shattered and Street Fighting Man.
[DH] 90 min; Excellent stereo soundboard recording. Probably the most well known boot of the tour. Legend has it the tape was stolen from the
soundboard before the show ended which explains why the end is missing. Good performance except the incomplete encore "Street Fighting Man"
sounds completely unrehearsed; terrible. Original LPs sound better than any CD release.
